I’m an easily-admitting bag whore. I have more than I could ever need at one time, but they all serve a specific activity well. Even if you aren’t a big bag person, especially guys, good luggage is something that everyone can appreciate. I recently spotted this Porter garment bag on the Blackbird online store, and I’m definitely drooling over all those pockets and compartments.

Porter is a Japanese brand well known for their quality nylon bags, and, at least to me, have had a surge in popularity recently alongside the traditional American workwear resurgence. This is probably owing to the large workwear scene in Japan, they seem to have a cult following for everything. At \$1000 it’s pretty steep for one piece of luggage, but you can certainly get what you pay for.

Muji is another Japanese brand that I can best describe as a Japanese Ikea without the bad parts of Ikea, but harder to come across in North America and certainly Canada. A fellow student as well as one of the teachers that I met in New York were big fans and we went to a couple of the stores there. They have a garment bag available on their online store and while it doesn’t look quite as technical, it’s missing a lot of the details and features of the Porter bag, it does fit with Muji’s minimal aesthetic. You definitely can’t beat the price too, at about \$80.
